84 Comments on “Hard Boiled Eggs in Microwave”
I was actually successful (after 2nd try) with achieving a hard boiled egg. I just boiled 1 egg, used a small but deep enough bowl to completely submerge the egg, added ½ tsp of salt, and microwaved it at 4 mins at first, let it sit for a minute, then microwaved it for an additional 2 mins, then 1½ minutes. (I was a bit paranoid about the egg exploding) Then I shocked it with ice water, and peeled. So I suggest maybe only hard boiling a single egg in the microwave, but stick to the stove top for 2 or more. I hope this helps someone out there…
Yeah I’ve tried the microwave method.
Eggs CANNOT be hard boiled in the microwave.
I first tried the recommended time, And there was still completely runny.
I try to second time and microwaved them for 30 minutes, nope still runny.
I tried the third time for 50 minutes, nope still runny.
So I don’t know what y’all’s definition of hard boiled, but if the egg can slip through your fingers, It’s not hard boiled it’s not even cooked.
DON’T TRY THIS. Egg exploded at 3 minutes in the microwave. I spent more time cleaning up the mess this made.
Don’t try this!! Tried this today…during second round of cooking. Waited the time after the four minutes to restart. There was a huge bang, microwave door flew open during cooking and exploded egg mess everywhere!
Worked perfectly. Three eggs in a small microwave safe bowl, just submerged in water with salt. I’ll be hard boiling eggs this way from now on.
One of two eggs blew up within three minutes. All rules were followed – water, deep bowl, salt amount per egg. Water and egg everywhere
Times are way off, I followed the recipe to the letter and ended up with 3 decent soft boiled eggs, which would have been fine if I was looking for soft boiled eggs.
LOL this so did not work. Under 2 minutes in, I heard a loud clunk and the inside of my microwave is a MESS because eggs exploded and burst everywhere. I had a feeling this was a bad idea.
first things first: nothing exploded. I repeat – nothing. I was very anxious scrolling through the comments whilst my microwave was running with the egg boiling inside. but nothing happened. it’s all fine. Just add the salt, for real 🙂
second things second: it worked! I only did one egg because I only needed one. My microwave is 700 Watts. I added 4 min. of time in total, rested the egg a little before putting it into colder water and ran it under cold water. It peeled perfectly and the yolk turned out just as perfect. I don’t like runny yolks, so, I didn’t really care about going too far over with the times. I thought it might come out too dry though, but it was jammy and silky and just so delicious. thanks for this hack!
Not cooked. All it made was a mess.
