(WHOLE30, GLUTEN FREE, GRAIN FREE, DAIRY FREE, PALEO)

If I had to pick my all time favorite dinner, it would have to be grilled burgers.  There’s just something about the smoky flavor from the grill, the hearty flavor of the meat and the endless choices for toppings that I love!  These Whole30 BBQ Burgers combine some of my favorite flavors into one epic burger.  I start with grass fed ground beef since it’s the highest quality meat and it tastes so tender and flavorful.  I then add in some caramelized onions and BBQ sauce.  The result is one super moist and savory burger!  In terms of toppings, I kept it classic with tomato and red onion.  The butter lettuce wraps provide a nice pop of color and allow you to eat this like a classic burger.  I also highly suggest trying out sweet potato “buns” with these as well.  You really can’t go wrong!  I typically enjoy mine with Whole30 ketchup or more Whole30 BBQ sauce.  Since burgers are my favorite and I like to enjoy them year round, my indoor grill comes in quite handy throughout the winter months.  I wasn’t sure if I’d use an indoor grill often enough but I pull it out at least once a week!  Even in the summer I use it to grill everything from skewers to steaks, pork chops, and burgers.  It’s become one of my favorite kitchen appliances (and I own plenty!).  I hope you try these burgers for your next cookout, backyard BBQ, Fourth of July party, or just any old weeknight.  You won’t be disappointed!

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Course: Lunch, Dinner
Servings: 8 burgers

Ingredients:

Meatballs:
2 pounds ground hamburger
1/2 cup white onion, diced small
1 TBL olive oil
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1/4 tsp sea salt
1 to 2 TBL Whole30 BBQ Sauce
2 packages butter lettuce
2 large tomatoes, sliced thick
1 large red onion, sliced

Directions:

Preheat grill to 400 degrees.  Meanwhile, add olive oil and onion to a skillet over medium.  Cook 4-5 minutes or until softened and tender.

Remove onion from skillet and add to a mixing bowl.  Add burger, pepper, sea salt, and BBQ sauce to the same mixing bowl.  Mix with hands until combined; don’t overwork the meat.  If you want to add more BBQ sauce, feel free.  It might make your burgers less sturdy though.

Form about 8 burger patties.  Spray grill with avocado oil and grill for 4-5 minutes per side.

To assemble: top butter lettuce with burger, a thick slice of tomato and a slice of red onion.

Enjoy!
